Youth Opportunity in Bristol TN/VA

United Is The Way

Helping Children Learn, Grow & Stay Rooted in Our Community

Every child in Bristol deserves a strong start and a clear path forward. When children have access to safe childcare, early literacy, quality after-school programs, and trusted mentors, families are more stable and our entire community grows stronger.

Strong Starts

Childcare & Early Development

We work alongside childcare providers, community leaders, and partners to improve access to safe, stable, and affordable childcare across Bristol TN/VA. By strengthening childcare systems, we help parents stay employed while creating nurturing environments for children from infancy through adolescence.

Our focus includes:

  • Supporting childcare and child development initiatives
  • Strengthening year-round out-of-school programming
  • Reducing the long-term impacts of childhood trauma (ACEs)

When childcare works, families work — and children thrive.

K-Ready Kids

Kindergarten Readiness & Early Literacy

Our K-Ready Kids initiative helps incoming kindergarten students begin school prepared and confident. Each year, children across Bristol TN, Bristol VA, and the East Zone of Sullivan County receive literacy-focused materials that encourage reading at home and help families build home libraries.

Early literacy builds:

  • Vocabulary and comprehension
  • Parent-child engagement
  • Confidence entering school

A strong start in kindergarten sets the tone for lifelong learning.

Afterschool Programs

Safe & Enriching Out-of-School Time

Out-of-school hours are critical. Through collaboration with local partners and the Bristol Afterschool Network (BAN), we strengthen access to safe, structured, and enriching after-school and summer programs.

These efforts include:

  • Provider training and capacity building
  • Collaboration across youth-serving organizations
  • Community-wide quality improvement initiatives

Community feedback consistently emphasized the importance of at-risk children and expanded access to services. Strengthening after-school programming directly answers that call.

Professional Development

Mentoring & Youth Development Through Trusted Partners

Youth opportunity in Bristol is powered by strong partnerships. We support and collaborate with organizations that provide mentoring, academic support, enrichment, and leadership development.

These partnerships ensure that:

  • Children have consistent adult role models
  • Students receive school-based support
  • Girls and boys have access to programs that build character, confidence, and career readiness

We do not work alone — we convene and strengthen the entire youth support network.
